400 years after the death of the 5th Marquis. 1625-2025

Panel 7

DRINKS, SNOW, EXCURSIONS AND SWEETS

Wine was drunk at all times and, of better or worse quality, it was consumed in abundance by all social levels.

In the 17th century, in general, white wine was preferred to red wine; also in Denia, where a jug of white wine was worth twice as much as a jug of red wine.

SNOW, a luxury in demand

In the 17th century, the use of snow to refresh drinks and fruits was very fashionable. In Dénia, snow was brought from the ice storage houses of the Aitana mountain range and from La Safor inland area.
