On May 17th 1625, the lord of the Marquisate of Dénia for 51 years (1574-1625) died.
The letter with the news arrived in Dénia 10 days later. The municipal government agreed to organise the ceremonies according to the funeral proceedings.

The funeral ceremony:
On the 6th of June 1625, between 7 and 8 in the morning, the members of the municipal government dressed in mourning at the Consell tower (castle). Accompanied by the clergy, in procession, they went out to the church, then located inside the castle.
They entered the church and took the place that corresponded to their position. Three sung masses were celebrated for the soul of the Marquis, with a sermon by Father Miró from the Franciscan convent of Dénia.
