THE DEATH OF THE DUKE-CARDINAL. VALLADOLID, 17th MAY 1625
Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas, 5th Marquis of Dénia and Duke of Lerma was the favourite of King Philip III for 20 years (1598 to 1618), during which time the House of Sandoval would receive great benefits from the crown. In the end, the Church would be his last destination as a duke-cardinal.
