People in the Ancien Régime were born, lived and died as members of a parish. The municipal government had to take care of the material needs of the religious community. On the other hand, the Church blessed the rulers.
In Denia, the City Council ensured that there was a chapel master who directed the singing in the church. It also commissioned the construction of a new organ in 1626.
Since medieval times, time in Dénia was measured with the church clock, located on top of the castle. In 1622 a new clock was built. Today we can still see the clock that was placed in 1877 over the Town Hall building, which dates back to the beginning of the 17th century.
